ISCaM 2019
6th Annual meeting

Cancer metabolic rewiring:
mapping the road to clinical translation

On behalf of the organizing committee, it is our pleasure to announce the “6th Annual ISCaM Meeting” to be held on 17-19 October 2019 at Bom Jesus do Monte, Braga, Portugal.

Cancer metabolism has been attracting attention of researchers and clinicians during the latest years, being recognized as a promising target for cancer therapy. In addition, metabolic rewiring has been identified as a mechanism of resistance to both classical and targeted therapy. In this meeting, we have set a comprehensive program that tackles the many faces of cancer metabolism, highlighting the recent advances in the field and the road ahead for clinical translation. This meeting will address topics from cancer pH dynamics; genetic and epigenetic regulation; cancer heterogeneity; cancer progression; programed cell death; to hot topics, namely diet and microbiota; immune response; and a clinical session on metabolism as a challenging target in cancer therapy. This year, we have the honor to count with the presence of several leading experts in the field and Prof. Diane Barber (University of S. Francisco, USA) and Prof. Jacques Pouysségur (Centre Scientifique de Monaco, MC) as keynote speakers.

The meeting venue will take place at Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary complex, one of the most famous symbols of Portugal. It is composed by a neoclassical church (Sanctuary of Bom Jesus) which stands atop a lush hill from where you can watch beautiful sunsets over the city and an impressive baroque staircase (Escadório do Bom Jesus). The Sanctuary complex is legally protected as cultural heritage assets, respectively as a Property and a Monument of Public Interest. We have also set up attractive social events, including animation with traditional folk music, and a city tour to the beautiful fashionable Porto where we will have a guided tour to a wine cellar and its ancient traditions, followed by a tasting of Port wine.

We believe that this program will attract the interest of both basic and translational young and senior researchers, as well as clinicians, offering the opportunity to exchange ideas in a friendly and stimulating environment, which hopefully will promote fruitful collaborations. We expect that this meeting will map the road to clinical translation, contributing to unveil new and more effective ways to fight cancer.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in our beautiful country to an inspirational and memorable ISCaM meeting!
